Granted I only use it for one specific purpose but it does the job exceedingly well and for free! I am a big fan of free. I use this nifty little app to transcode video into a teeny-tiny MP4. It has presets for Apple products, Android devices, and some other generic formats including Google’s WebM that has yet to lift off. The interface is very simple and it rarely gives me headaches.

It uses FFMPEG to convert your video. That brings up another reason why I love this app: it’s open-source! Now for my only negative of this little converter. It can only do one file at a time. There is no queue. I believe this is a design and usability choice and not a limitation but it would be nice to plop a folder in and call it a day.

Typically I get very clean MP4’s out of Miro using the MP4 setting. Using Adobe’s Media Encoder I rarely can get the same file size AND lack of artifacting that comes from Miro. So give it a go it you want a painless conversion tool to MP4’s and love using open-source software as much as I do. http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/

TD Ameritrade Logo Animation

Motion

Portfolio
<guid

I hope you find some inspiration in them as well:

You are not a commodity, don’t let them treat you as such. They hired you for your skills, that’s why you are there. Yes, they will say you are lucky to have a job, and you are, but your luck is only 5% of your total package. You have a degree, you have fantastic work, you push everyday. They won’t see these things after you land the job. To a bad company all you are is one of the 10% unemployed that has a job all thanks to them. They can drop you like a sack of shit and pick up another employee at the drop of a hat. Good for us that isn’t really how it works.

There is your job and then there is your work. Your job is the thing you go to, record your time sheets at, look at Reddit when you are on lunch. Your work is your life – I know it’s mine. I build my work, I constantly train and get better. There is “just doing your job” and then there is what a lot of designers strive for. You will recognize a bad company by its willingness to dismiss your excellent work as “just doing your job.” Make no mistake, the better your work is the more potential work your company will get. The better you are, the more money they make. So fuck yes I would like to be recognized for doing some awesome work. Throwing a bonus around here and there or even a comp day after working a whole weekend would be something. But no, you don’t deserve anything like that – you were “just” doing your job.

If a company can drop you with no notice, no reason, how can they get upset when you give them 1 week or more notice and a reason (or multiple reasons)? You leave a company, the company will survive… Your company fires you, you will probably be devastated for a while. Companies watch out for their best interests, so should you.

I will leave you here. Hopefully this will give you some hope. I currently have a rocking job. There are good employers out there. Keep looking and dump your crap company.

eSutras Logo

Design

Portfolio
<guid

It also works with custom ratios which I use almost everyday. Check out the screenshots below and if you do video work you should pick it up for the crazy price of free. <a
